Controls

Controls are put in place to make sure that the project is producing the correct products, at the correct quality, on schedule, with the assigned resources at the agreed costs and that the project is still required according to the business case.

Prince 2 defines breaking down the project in to management stages, which are key decision points throughout the project.

The controls are there to:

  • Monitor progress

  • Compare results against the plan

  • Review of plans and options

  • To detect problems

The controls are:

  • A project initiation after which a decision is made if to proceed with the project

  • End stage assessment, where the project board review the stage

  • Highlights report, a regular report from the project manager of progress

  • Exception reports, a report to the board of when the project is going to deviate from the agreed project tolerances

  • Project closure, where it is checked that everything has been delivered as expected

Logs:

  • Issues log

  • Risk log

  • Daily log
